The World Scout Jamboree is an event that takes place every 4 years that brings together the world’s Scouts to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills. The 24th World Scout Jamboree will bring together Scouts from around the globe to experience new adventures, cultures, and friendships. The Jamboree will take place on 22nd July - 2nd August 2019 at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA.  The site has more than 14,000 acres (5 times bigger than Hitchin!) of beautiful forested mountains and will function like a small city with over 45,000 residents (40% more people than the population of Hitchin).

Find out more about the World Scout Jamboree site at www.2019wsj.org.

Do something really different that very few others will get to do. Be one of only 7 young people who will be going from Hitchin, and 117 young people from Hertfordshire. You only get one opportunity as a young person in Scouting to go as a participant so make it this one!

We are looking for 7 young people born between 22nd July 2001 and 21st July 2005 to be selected to represent Hitchin. You don’t need to have earnt badges & awards. You don’t need 50 nights away. You don’t need to have been in Beavers and Cubs. And you don’t need to know Bear Grylls... We’re looking for people who will make the most of the opportunity and be ambassadors for Scouting UK and Hitchin. Not sure whether it’s for you? Come along anyway and find out more - you can’t be selected if you don’t even apply!

Interested? Want to find out more?

1. Come along to one of our information evenings for young people and parents/carers:
Thursday 21st Sept or Wednesday 27th Sept, 7:30pm, Christchurch, Bedford Rd, Hitchin SG5 1HF

2. Fill in an application form (opens after the information evenings and closes Tuesday 31st October) via the link below

3. Join our selection day on Saturday 11th November (attendance mandatory) and show us why you’re one of the Scouts our District should select to go.

As much as we’d love everyone to get a space, some people will be disappointed; we just don’t have enough places for everyone who would like to go, but all applicants will find out whether they have been successful or not by mid-November.
